Conceptualised by Santanu Das, founder and designer of Maku Textiles, Excess curates simple fabrics from village weavers, and brings them to Kolkata to create simple, essential clothes for everyday wear.
Supporting artisans and a sustainable approach to fashion are key, recognising that we live in a world of excess, where production exceeds consumption. The handloom industry contributes to the surplus of textiles produced every year, due to design exploration and imperfections. These piles of fabrics that lie in the villages of India, are brought to us as Excess.
Excess is all about mindful creation, in a raw yet sophisticated way, giving these fabrics life, and in turn providing a good income for the weavers from otherwise dead stock.
The beautifully romantic Polka Frock is made from lightweight handloom cotton/silk Jamdani, in a soft ecru colour, with random large polka dots. It features a scoop neck, drop shoulders, puffed three-quarter sleeves, long two tiered skirt and side pockets.
